The difficulty with reviewing student bands is that I don’t know who wants to be taken seriously. But since I paid $5 to see the show, I’ll give my 500 cents.

Student bands are forgivably unpolished. Good and bad are therefore inadequate metrics for this music. Reviewing should really be in terms of interesting and boring.

Yeah, none of the bands are really “good.” But it really doesn’t matter. Does the music warrant my attention beyond just a matter of quality?

There are attempts, and then there are attempts. They all fail, but from failure, where can we identify opportunity?

Maybe we don’t want music, but just noise. What’s the difference anyway?

I’m not saying we shouldn’t make music. But we should think about what it really means to make music. Or perhaps, what it could mean.

It will be up to the musicians to decide. If they want to call themselves that.
